Monitor NWS forecast discussion and mesoscale analysis for activation potential
- 2.
Confirm SKYWARN net activation from local NWS forecast office
- 3.
Review current watches, warnings, and mesoscale discussions
- 4.
Program SKYWARN net frequency into radio, verify repeater access
- 5.
Charge all devices: HT, phone, mobile radio backup battery
- 6.
Review severe weather reporting criteria (hail size, wind speed, tornado indicators)
- 7.
Select safe spotting location with clear sight lines and escape routes
- 8.
Check in with SKYWARN NCS, report location and grid square
- 9.
Begin observations -- log time, location, and conditions
- 10.
Report significant weather using standard SKYWARN format
- 11.
Maintain situational awareness -- relocate if conditions become unsafe
- 12.
Report storm damage observations with location and severity
- 13.
Continue monitoring until NWS deactivation or all-clear
- 14.
Submit final spotter report and check out with NCS

Multi-tool, electrical tape, zip ties, velcro straps
